I cannot tell you how many of my patients, clients, friends and family I have advised to lay off the coffee, even if they only drink one cup daily. Although some hearty constitutions handle it well, I say, many other people, such as vatta and pitta constitutions, it wreaks havoc on. Some of the most common complaints associated with coffee consumption are--
· Anxiety and insomnia
· Aging of the skin
· Acid reflux, heartburn
I have quit partaking in the pleasurable ritual a gazillion times, and cheated on that promise to myself nearly as many times. Back and forth from Swiss- water- processed decaf, to organic regular, to tea only, and round the bend again, until recently: Enter the 21st Century, and COCONUT OIL.
Yep it’s true, many of you have probably heard of some rather extreme personality types, putting coconut oil in their coffee, but WHY, why would I do that, you ask? Sounds gross , doesn’t it? I thought so too, until I tried it.
So this morning I tried it, and guess what…I liked it. It did not burn my cardiac sphincter, or the other one, or any other place for that matter. Sorry, sometimes I have to be a little graphic to make a point. It doesn’t add much to the flavor, but it doesn’t subtract either; what it does seem to do is to protect the esophagus, and digestive tract, and its good for the skin and heart. Briefly consider the proven benefits of coconut oil: Fights off bacteria and viruses, contributes to healthy digestion and balances bacteria in gut, strong antimicrobial and antiviral properties, and skin health.
Final thought is ALWAYS the same: Listen to your body. If you still need to cut back or eliminate coffee, then do that. I did want to share my experience with those of you who may still be struggling to find a solution and find a way to have your java without negative side effects.
Lastly, If you haven’t been in to see me in over a month, its time to come in! Now is the perfect time to get a massage or an acupuncture tune-up. Most of us love the sunny long days of summer, but that also can mean burning up a lot of qi while having fun. By all means, enjoy yourselves, but taking time to self-care will never break your bank or make you wish you hadn’t.
Namaste. From your acupuncture and massage love warrior out in the world.
